How can I best treat the Suar wooden scratching posts?
Our scratching posts are made of solid tropical suar wood – a strong and durable wood. However, it's important to maintain the wood properly, especially if you place the furniture in a dry or very warm room.
Treatment & maintenance:
- Treat once or twice a year with a natural oil (such as teak oil or hardwax oil). This protects the wood from drying out and preserves its warm color and sheen.
- For wooden scratching posts that are placed outdoors or in very dry air, you can treat it every 6 months .
Extra tip – Prevent cracks:
Wood continues to expand and contract – that's normal. In very dry areas (e.g., with underfloor heating or air conditioning), it can develop cracks more quickly.
To prevent this, we recommend using a humidifier in the room.

What is the best way to treat teak scratching posts?
Teak is naturally durable thanks to the oils it contains. For optimal maintenance, we recommend:
Treat once a year with teak oil or hardwood oil for normal indoor use.
If the indoor air is dry (or if there is underfloor heating), it is advisable to treat the area twice a year .
Use a soft cloth or brush to apply the oil evenly, removing any excess after 15 minutes. A humidifier can help maintain a stable humidity level and prevent excessive dryness.
Where does TropiCasa's teak and suar wood come from?
Our teak and suar wood is sustainably sourced in Indonesia , where it is harvested, replanted, and locally processed under strict supervision. The wood comes from managed plantations or controlled forest areas. This way, we not only guarantee quality and unique craftsmanship but also contribute to responsible forest management and local employment.
How are the cushions mounted, can I wash/remove them?
Our cushions are attached with Velcro and animal-safe adhesive, ensuring they stay securely in place during use but are also easy to remove when needed. This means you can easily remove the cushions to air them out, clean them, or replace them.
Although the covers are not removable, the cushions can be gently cleaned with a damp cloth. Would you prefer to receive the cushion separately, or do you have specific requirements regarding mounting or maintenance? Please let us know – we're happy to discuss your needs.
Is the scratching post also suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, TropiCasa also offers scratching posts suitable for outdoor use. Our outdoor models are crafted with the same care and craftsmanship from solid tropical hardwood (such as teak or suar), which is naturally weather-resistant.
Please note: some important adjustments apply for outdoor use:
Oil treatment: Outdoor scratching posts are provided with a protective oil treatment to provide the wood with extra protection against moisture and UV radiation.
Rope type: Instead of sisal rope, we use hemp rope because it's more weather-resistant. Hemp rope is only available in natural color, so it's not possible to choose a different rope color for outdoor poles.
Toys: Luxury cat toys are not attached to outdoor scratching posts as standard, as they can develop mold when exposed to moisture. For orders already placed, we will include the toy separately.
Cushions: Cushions are not recommended for outdoor use, as they must be removed every time it rains. We can supply them if desired, but it's important to note that this isn't standard practice for outdoor models.
Can the wood of my scratching post crack?
Yes, that's possible. Our scratching posts are made of solid suar or teak wood, which is a living, natural product. Small cracks or tears may occur due to temperature and moisture fluctuations—this is part of the natural process of wood.
Don't worry: it won't affect the strength and even contributes to the authentic look. Want to give it a subtle touch-up? You can order a repair kit from us. A humidifier also helps prevent cracking.
Can cracks in wood be prevented?
Solid suar and teak wood is a natural material that always "moves" a little – that is, it reacts to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. This can cause small cracks or fissures to develop over time. This is a normal and unavoidable process with real wood, and makes each piece of furniture unique.
Although you cannot completely prevent this, you can reduce the risk by:
Do not place the scratching post directly next to a radiator, underfloor heating or air conditioning.
Keep the humidity stable with a humidifier (available through our shop)
Treat the wood once or twice a year with a suitable oil
Because this is a natural phenomenon, hairline cracks are generally not covered by the warranty . In exceptional cases (such as a structural fracture), we are happy to work with you to find a suitable solution.

How long does it take to receive my order?
Our average delivery time is approximately 1 to 2 weeks , depending on the model and the level of customization. Each TropiCasa scratching post is a unique work of art, handcrafted entirely from solid tropical wood and tailored to your personal preferences. From the color of the scratching rope to the luxurious cushions and elegant bowls: your scratching post is carefully crafted especially for you with an eye for detail.
What are the shipping costs?
Shipping is free for all orders within the Netherlands. Shipping costs to Belgium and other countries will be calculated at checkout.
Can I return my order?
Yes, you can return your order within 14 days of receipt. The return must be in its original condition and packaging. Returns within the Netherlands are free .
How can I track my order?
Once your order has shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking number. This allows you to easily track your package and see when it will arrive.
Do you also deliver to other EU countries?
Yes, in many cases we can deliver to other EU countries. Because the transport of our handmade scratching posts is customized, we assess the options and associated costs on a per-order basis.
We'll be happy to check this for you with our logistics partner. You'll receive a response from us within 24 hours with a specific answer and, if possible, a price estimate for delivery to your desired address.

Ja, het is mogelijk om uw TropiCasa-krabpaal zelf op te halen bij ons op locatie in Apeldoorn. Bij zelf afhalen ontvangt u bovendien €30 korting op het totaalbedrag
Let op: onze krabpalen zijn met de hand gemaakt van massief hout en bevatten fragiele elementen zoals houten plateau’s. We helpen u uiteraard graag bij het zo goed mogelijk bevestigen van het product, maar het vervoer is op eigen risico. Zorg daarom voor voldoende ruimte in uw voertuig en passende bescherming.
